On April 25, 2025, the 28th International Trenchless Technology Conference & Exhibition (ITTC 2025) successfully concluded after three days of events. Covering nearly 20,000 square meters, the exhibition attracted more than 120 well-known companies from around the globe in the trenchless industry, showcasing the latest products and cutting-edge technologies.
During the prestigious awards ceremony at this event, Hebei Huayuan Science and Industry Co., Ltd. was honored with the 2024 “Outstanding Trenchless Project Award of China” for its Gas Supply Pipeline Project from Dachan Island to Mawan Power Plant, and also received the 2024 “Outstanding Trenchless Technology Award of China” for its Offshore HDD Construction Platform Technology. Notably, Professor KeJian Shou, Chairman of the International Society for Trenchless Technology (ISTT), presented Huayuan with the 2024 ISTT Project Award (New Installation Category)—marking the first time this international award has been presented domestically. These honors not only recognize Huayuan’s capability for technological innovation, but also greatly encourage its resolve to continue overcoming challenges and pushing boundaries in the future.
The Outstanding Trenchless Awards of China, including the “Outstanding Trenchless Project Award of China” and the “Outstanding Trenchless Technology Award of China,” are authoritatively established and presented by the Trenchless Technology Committee of the Geological Society of China. As benchmark honors in the industry, these awards are evaluated based on institutional authority, technological innovation, standardization, and ecological coordination. They have become a leading force in driving technological upgrades and high-quality development in China’s trenchless sector.
Project Overview of Huayuan’s Winning Entry for the “Outstanding Trenchless Project Award of China”
Gas Supply Pipeline from Dachan Island to Mawan Power Plant:
This project was constructed to support the first gas source supply and connects Dachan Island to the Mawan Power Plant. The planned pipeline extends approximately 5.05 km in total length and consists of D610×23.8mm X65MO longitudinal submerged arc-welded steel pipes with a design pressure of 10 MPa. The pipeline sources gas from the Dachan Island branch station of the West-East Gas Pipeline II. HDD crossing was employed for installation, with entry points located offshore at the northeast coast of Dachan Island and south of the Mawan Power Plant. The borepath traverses the northwest public shipping channel and adjacent marine areas, reaching depths of 60 meters below the seabed. The total length of the HDD section is 4,735 meters.

Offshore HDD Construction Platform Technology:
Due to site constraints on the Dachan Island side of the pipeline project, the entry point was located offshore near the shoreline. To address this challenge, Huayuan developed an innovative modular offshore construction platform. The platform is composed of steel pipe piles, pile caps, connecting beams, pile collars, trusses, tie rod mechanisms, walkway units, drill rig base frame, and crane base frame. Designed for rapid assembly with small components, the platform allows flexible expansion and diverse configuration shapes, significantly reducing the construction time of the HDD platform. Its structure is engineered to withstand complex marine conditions with high resistance to wind and waves. During construction, the platform’s reliability was thoroughly validated under the super typhoon "Saola," providing critical technical support and valuable experience for offshore HDD operations.
